What do you know about butterflies and their life cycle? Sing along to the song to learn all about it! We start our lives as tiny eggs. Mother tucks us away on a leaf. In a few days we will begin to hatch, And then we will start to eat. We are little caterpillars, munching on leaves. We eat a lot to make us grow. And for the next few weeks, we will shed our skin. Four or five times we will let it go. We build a chrysalis around our bodies When we are fully grown. Then we start our remarkable transformation Inside of our new home. And when our metamorphosis is complete, We emerge as butterflies. We reveal our new bodies dry And flex our wings so that we can take to the skies. Now we must search with our straw-like tongues For sweet nectar to drink. We are especially attracted to pretty flowers Of purple, red, orange, and pink. We dance all day from flower to flower, Amongst the colorful blooms, Spreading pollen, drinking nectar, and helping Mother Nature. And then off to other plants we zoom. Along with bees, we pollinate plants. It’s an important job, we know. We are tiny creatures who help your garden put on a bountiful show. And when this lady butterfly is old enough, She will lay her eggs on a leaf. And now the life cycle of this beautiful butterfly is now complete. *Teachers and Parents! Did you know?
